About Odense

Odense is pronounced as “o-en-se.” Odense is the third-largest city in Denmark, after Copenhagen and Aarhus. It is the main city of the island of Funen.

Transportation

It takes about 1.5 hr by train from Copenhagen (København H)to Odense. The tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket machine.

The train station in Odense is at a great location. The majority of landmarks except The Funen Village are accessible on foot.

Rejsekort (the public transportation card in Denmark) can be used in Odense as well.

Landmarks

I don’t introduce all the landmarks I visited but those I like instead. For the details of the touristy spots, there are a lot of information and resources online.

1. Storms Pakhus | Odense Street Food

The food court is within walking distance from the train station. Different from Reffen in Copenhagen, it is an indoor one. It is important in winter, for you don’t suffer from the cold wind. There is even a children's area where kids can play while parents are eating.

You can find various kinds of food. There are Thai, Hong Kong, Greek, and American food, bars, café, and so on. The atmosphere is chill. There is even a stage inside. I guess the concerts and events will be held at night there.

2. The Funen Village

The village shows the Danish houses and agricultural life in ancient times. There are animals and over 10 areas that show different house designs.

I highly recommend this place although it is a bit far away from the train station. After visiting it, I finally realize the families and houses in the fairy tails are real. I didn’t have that feeling until I walked into the house and saw the kitchens that were originally in the books.

No one can deny that Hans Christian Andersen is the most famous celebrity from Odense. You also can see how he grew up in the village. I would say it is pretty interesting.

Odense is can be a one-day trip destination from Copenhagen. I visited the small tourist spots in the morning and had lunch at the food court. I went to the village in the afternoon, and went to the park near the train station and had a stroll.

It’s quite a cute place. Pay it a visit in the spare time.
